Two common functional injuries among sports participants are chronic strain and osteoarthritis. Chronic strain, a sports injury, stems from repeated overuse of muscles, tendons, or joints during exercise (e.g., knee strain in runners, rotator cuff strain in weightlifters), causing chronic pain, local inflammation, limited mobility, and even disrupted sports performance. While stroke is not a direct sports injury, it damages the central nervous system and impairs basic motor control, thereby causing motor disorders such as foot drop (difficulty lifting the ankle naturally, leading to toe-dragging when walking) and gait abnormalities (poor balance, uneven stride length, and high fall risk). This leaves patients unable to stand or walk independently—they not only struggle to perform simple physical activities like walking, but also find it hard to complete basic daily "movements" such as getting up or moving around. The core need is to rebuild neuromuscular control and motor coordination through rehabilitation: first restore basic daily motor functions, then gradually improve them to return to simple physical activities.

Improper exercise habits, exercise interruption, or declining exercise capacity often cause exercise-related functional decline and imbalance. It shows in three ways: long-term inactivity or sudden lower intensity reduces muscle strength, leading to weakness, poor endurance, and higher injury risk; long-term single-type exercise or no post-workout stretching limits joint mobility, hurting sports performance and causing chronic strain; and wrong force use or uneven muscle strength breaks posture balance, which may bring pain over time and form a "posture imbalance → sports injury → functional decline" cycle.
